Welcome Supper

We aim to make a stay at The Cottage in the Garden as special an experience as we possibly can, so if you like the idea of a completely relaxing and utterly luxurious beginning to your holiday, we have a suggestion…..

…Rather than drive again to have a meal or cook for yourselves on your arrival you could pre-order a supper for two from our menu below. You would find the table laid ready for you in the cottage, a complimentary bottle of wine waiting to be opened and supper ready at the time of your choosing. 

Each meal is freshly prepared using the finest ingredients.

We order our meat and fish from the best local  farms and small suppliers and we do require you to book ahead for your meal.

Please note this is for your first night only. We require you to request supper and confirm your choices no later than 1 week ahead of your arrival.  

If you would like a very gentle start to your holiday we can also stock the fridge with the ingredients for your first breakfast so you can cook at your own leisure.

Thereafter there are many Farmers’ markets, local shops and in Crowborough a large Waitrose supermarket, Lidl and Morrisons.

Arrival supper for two in the cottage with wine.

If you opt for this supper option we will leave a complimentary bottle of wine in the cottage;  please stipulate red or white wine when you book supper.

Our menu changes with availability and the seasons.

We cook every meal freshly to order, Every dish is homemade using our own recipes and the finest ingredients.

Each dish is for two, so please each choose the same dish in each course


Salmon sashimi with lime, chilli, ginger, mint and coriander dressing

Asparagus, freshly cut from our local farm, home made mayonnaise. (In season late Spring only)

Celeriac remoulade with Parma ham

French onion soup in individual tureens, croûtons

Warm goat’s cheese with chicory and grapes, honey dressing

Smoked mackerel paté, spiked with freshly grated horseradish and tiny capers.

Home made onion bread rolls and butter

Main course

Duck breasts, cooked pink with a Cassis sauce ( blackcurrant liqueur), pommes Anna

Warm goat’s cheese, rocket and red onion tart with tomato, basil and pine nut salad

Shoulder of local rare breed pork, very slow roasted with garlic and fennel, leek and potato mash

Smoked trout, new potato and broad bean warm salad, cream dill dressing

Crispy roast boned chicken stuffed with garlic and parsley, herbed Puy lentils

Pork with prunes in Armagnac, crushed new potatoes with watercress


Rhubarb fool, shortbread biscuits

The Cottage in the Garden homemade bitter orange and chocolate ice-cream

Little chocolate pots and cream

Cottage ‘nanas’ with praline, cream, chocolate, cinnamon and biscuit

Fresh fruit in Muscat wine

Breakfast option for your first morning only.         £12 pp

Local free range eggs, bacon, delicious local sausages, homemade bread, butter, homemade jam and marmalade. (Coffee and tea already provided)

Or; Smoked salmon, local free range eggs, homemade loaf, butter, homemade jam and marmalade. Orange juice.(Coffee and tea already provided)
