We aim to make a stay at The Cottage in the Garden as special an experience as we possibly can, so if you like the idea of a completely relaxing and utterly luxurious beginning to your holiday, we have a suggestion.
Rather than drive again to have a meal or cook for yourselves on your arrival why not pre-order a supper for two from our menu below? You would find the table laid ready for you in the cottage and a complimentary bottle of wine waiting to be opened. We ask you let us know at what time you would wish to eat, we set the oven timer accordingly. You would only need to remove the food from the oven or fridge and take it to the table.
All the dishes in our menu are home made here from scratch. Each meal is freshly prepared for your arrival using the very finest ingredients, many of which will be sourced locally. We make a point of ordering our meat and fish from the best local farms and small suppliers and, because it takes time and love to prepare and cook such a meal, we cannot provide this supper with notice of less than one week.
Please note this is for your first night only. If you are interested please request this and confirm your choices no later than 1 week ahead of your arrival.
In addition, the ingredients for your first breakfast can be left ready for you to cook at your own leisure, making a very gentle start to your stay here.
Thereafter there are many Farmers’ markets, local shops and in Crowborough a large Waitrose supermarket.
If you opt for this supper option we will leave a complimentary bottle of wine in the cottage; please stipulate red or white wine when you book supper.

Ceviche of thinly sliced fish in a marinade with our own sweet pepper and chilli jam
Red peppers, roasted with olive oil, tomato, garlic and anchovies, with ciabatta to mop up the sauce
Asparagus, grown in local fields, roasted with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, pine nuts and pancetta (In season now)
Chilled sorrel, lettuce, cream and watercress soup with croutons
Smoked mackerel paté, rich yet light, spiked with freshly grated horseradish and tiny capers. Served with home made bread
Shoulder of local rare breed pork, very slow roasted with garlic and fennel
Crispy roast boned chicken marinaded with garlic and parsley and extra virgin olive oil.
Duck breasts sauteed till pink in a sauce of cassis ( blackcurrant liqueur)
Rotherfield spring lamb 'Poitevine' ( slow cooked in garlic and brandy)
(All the above we serve with individual casseroles of crushed new potatoes and wilted watercress dressed with extra virgin olive oil and sea salt)
Warm goat’s cheese, rocket and red onion tarts with tomato, basil and pine nut salad
Cold poached salmon with a chantilly walnut and fresh horseradish sauce and a side salad
Rhubarb fool, with shortbread biscuit
