a very special place
We set about the renovation of this very special place with one aim in mind; to make it the most welcoming, most private, most romantically beautiful sanctuary we could imagine, a place where our guests will feel genuinely cared for.
Arriving at The Cottage in the Garden you will be struck by the staggering views all the way to the South Downs, views which are amongst the very best in Sussex. Throughout we have aimed to create an atmosphere of both elegance and simplicity with many unique touches.
The Cottage in the Garden is some distance from the main house and has total privacy. On the veranda you will find a pretty bench and table making an enticing place for breakfast in warm weather or a sundowner at any time of year. Some guests wrap themselves in the rugs we provide and sit out late watching the stars. In summer the sloping lawn below the veranda or stoop is a mass of wild flowers, alive with Butterflies.
The remote location gives an intense "away from it all" feeling. The birdsong in Spring is wonderful and all year buzzards hunt in the valley below. At night our resident tawny owls hoot from the tall trees. It is rare to hear a vehicle, occasionally a tractor, more often the sound of horses' hooves on the lane....
